1. Administration and Organisation of Tourism Businesses and Institutions
The management of tourism businesses, especially hotels, can be studied by analysing efficiency in terms of production and available resources. Finance and accounting management make up one of the other pillars of this line of research, the aim being to seek out ways to improve the management of tourism businesses. Entrepreneurship and business start-ups in the tourism sector are also explored, linking up studies on gender impact, productivity, higher employment in the sector and a new vision of human resources management.

2. Analysis of Tourism Markets and Creation and Innovation of Tourism Products.
Research into tourism economics focuses on the economic impacts of specific tourism institutions and destinations and a thorough cost-benefit analysis. Another research line concerns market studies on the available tourism offer and studies on the behaviour of tourism demand based on the most sensitive variables in the process of choosing a tourism destination. Prices, seasonal variations in different types of tourism accommodations and the brand images of tourism destinations are studied from a marketing perspective. Another focus of attention could be the creation and innovation of tourism products.

This line of research includes the cultural heritage and its treatment as a tourism product, and cultural management in general, in relation to tourism. A distinguishing feature with respect to other PhD programmes in Tourism is the inclusion of topics from anthropology, sociology, literature, language, history and philosophy that can be exploited when creating and managing new cultural tourism products as alternatives to existing ones.
