PhD in Entrepreneurship and Management
Introduction
The PhD in Entrepreneurship and Management / IDEM programme is dedicated to promoting competitive, international-level research that make a relevant scientific contribution and generates new useful social knowledge in the areas of Company Management and Economics.
This PhD is the continuation of the thesis phase of the doctoral programme of the same name (International PhD in Entrepreneurship and Management) adapted to RD 99/2011. At the same time this PhD has been offered constantly since 1978 as a doctoral programme of the Department of Economics and Business.
The programme has a clearly international orientation. Of the theses presented in the last twenty year (55 theses), a little more than half were in Spanish (33) and the rest in English (22). In the last 5 years the proportion has reversed: the number of theses in English is greater than half (see IDEM's website).
This international character is also seen in the origins of the graduates over the last twenty years: 18 being Spanish and the remaining 37 from 15 other countries. Looking at the last five years 25 doctoral theses have been presented of which 5 were from Spanish candidates and the other 20 from other countries.
Candidate profile
The programme is mainly addressed to graduates in Business Management and Administration or Economics who have also obtained a research-oriented master's degree in this field, and wish to develop a doctoral thesis in one of its subject areas, principally: business start-ups, SME management, strategy, marketing, finance and accounting, innovation, publicly-owned companies, and efficiency analysis.
The typical student profile is that of someone seeking an academic career at university, or who already occupies an academic post and wishes to advance further. Alternatively, it could be someone planning to work in applied research with companies or other business-oriented organisations in the public or private sector.

The taught part of the course, both fixed and complementary basically concerns scientific methodology and is designed to develop capacity for rigorous research by each PhD candidate.
