PhD in Advanced Immunology
Introduction
Social demand of immunology specialists is growing in both improvements in knowledge and in the area of translational applications of that knowledge in immunotherapy for a large number of illnesses, whether they involve the immune system itself (e.g.infectious or autoimmune diseases) or other illnesses such as cancer.
The need for clinical and research staff with training in immunology covers runs across a wide range of disciplines.
Candidate profile
The PhD in Advanced Immunology is aimed at students who have obtained a Masters degree in any area of bioscience. The ideal student profile is someone with a marked capacity for analysis, a proactive attitude, a problem-solving mentality and a completed Masters degree in Advanced Immunology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the University of Barcelona. Student who have an official research Masters degree or equivalent in the area of bioscience, taken over a comparable period to that for this PhD course may also apply. In the above case the specific training of the student in immunology will be taken into account.

Students who achieve the qualification of PhD in this programme can follow a scientific, academic or professional career in research centres, universities, hospitals and research and scientific development companies nationally and internationally.
They can carry out professional tasks in areas of bioscience and medicine that require professionals with a high level of expertise in immunology.
Objectives and justification
The main objective of this programme is to prepare students to be able to carry out independent research in the area of immunology and its applications.
The programme aims to consolidate knowledge and train high level researchers in the area of immunology. This programme evaluates the research of the PhD candidate in a public presentation of the doctoral thesis and the publication of articles deriving from in in international indexed journals in the JCR.
