About doctoral theses

  • The extensions must be endorsed by the director and do not need the approval of the CAP but of the review committee (act 05/10/2015).
  • The requirement to provide the thesis text already written to annual review is eliminated (act 09/27/2016).
  • Criteria for awarding the extraordinary doctorate awards: cum laude mention, originality of the work, both in terms of subject and focus, transfer effects (effective or potential) and international mention (act 02/20/2018).
  • In the case of application for conducting thesis as a compendium of publications when already begun the traditional system, the change will not be accepted after having performed the second annual review. The applicant must present a proposal and a reasoned implementation plan (act 09/25/2018)

About doctoral theses by compendium of publications (act 07/06/2016)

  • The applicant must present a proposal and a reasoned implementation plan, with the approval of its thesis supervisor, to the Doctoral Committee of the PhD programme in Human Security and Global Law.
  • The change will not be accepted after having performed the second annual review.
  • Agreement to authorize, in the PhD programme in Human Security and Global Law, the thesis as a compendium of publications
    • The program authorizes the thesis to be read through a compendium of publications such as articles, papers or communications at conferences or book chapters. This authorization does not require modification of the programme verification memory.
    • The Commission of the PhD programme, upon request of the interested person, with the approval of the thesis supervisor, is in charge of authorizing the presentation of the PhD thesis as a compendium of publications.
    • This format of PhD thesis as a compendium requires a minimum of two publications made individually by the student and that in all articles the UAB is recorded through the affiliation of the thesis supervisor or PhD student, either in the acknowledgments or in footnote with the expression: "This work has been carried out within the framework of the PhD programme in Human Security and Global Law of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona".
    • The presentation of the doctoral thesis as a compendium of publications must include, as a minimum, an introduction to the subject of study, the objectives to be achieved, a presentation of the research carried out as a fundamental part, the discussion of the results obtained, the conclusions and the bibliography. Also, can include as many attachments as it sees fit. The doctoral thesis may include research results presented at conferences or published in articles.
    • On the cover of the thesis, it must be stated that it is a doctoral thesis, the title and the subtitle when appropriate, the author, the thesis supervisor, the academic tutor, the name of the PhD programme, the research department or institute, the university and the year of deposit of the doctoral thesis. In the case of doctoral theses consisting of more than one volume, the volume number must be clearly indicated.
    • Authorization to submit the thesis as a compendium of publications implies that the publications must be made after enrollment in the PhD programme in Human Security and Global Law, without prior publications being allowed.
