Introduction

Social, economic and cultural changes in recent decades in all developed societies have meant the appearance of new educational scenarios and contexts, and with them new collective spaces for psychoeducational research and intervention. This means there are increasingly large numbers of researchers and professional psychologists researching and intervening in educational scenarios outside the traditional environments of the family and school education and who work with groups not exclusively made up of children and young people.

Within that framework, the Postgraduate in Educational Psychology, made up of the Interuniversity Master's degree in Educational Psychology -MIPE- and the Interuniversity PhD in Educational Psychology  -DIPE-, is a joint initiative of four of the universities of Catalonia -University of Barcelona, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, University of Girona and Ramon Llull University - aimed at students and professionals who want to acquire a solid theoretical and practical training in the contribution of  psychological knowledge to educational theory and practice.

Candidate profile

The PhD in Educational Psychology is aimed at graduates in psychology, pedagogy, psychopedagogy and related degrees who have taken a Master's degree in Educational Psychology or in an area related to Education and development.

When choosing this programme student must be able to demonstrate a clear link to one of the lines of research proposed and consequently must have the knowledge and competences that the line of research in question requires.

Professional opportunities

Training as a professional researcher and doctor in educational psychology may be demanded or considered as an added value for accessing professional areas such as:
  • Teaching and research in universities.
  • Psychoeducational assessment in formal, non-university education.
  • Psychoeducational assessment in non-formal education.
  • Analysis and evaluation of educational projects, programmes and initiatives.
  • Selection and training of teachers at all educational levels.

Objectives and justification

Through the Interuniversity PhD in Educational Psychology, the universities which offer it aspire to:

  • Provide a quality PhD programme based on epistemological, conceptual and methodological principles, directed at knowledge and research in educational processes in different contexts and scenarios.
  • Offer students a broad range of research lines, with the backing and involvement of recognised research groups in Catalonia, which they can join to carry out their own PhD thesis project, under the guarantee of specialised and rigorous guidance and supervision.
  • Share intellectual and material resources of the participating research groups with the aim of offering students a greater and richer range of training options in educational psychology.
  • Promote the development and dissemination of the lines of work within the research groups participating in the programme through continued collaboration and exchange.
