Frankenstein, 200 years
13/12/2018
Mary Shelley saw published his work Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus in 1818, although the first edition did not mention his name. But, from the first moment, it had a great public success.
This year marks the 200th anniversary of the publication and the Library of Science and Technology proposes you to get closer to history and, also, to the science that distills the novel, a true reflection of the era in which it was written.
In the hall of the BCT, a selection of books and films show and explain the figure of Dr. Frankenstein and his creature. And, in the complementary web page, you can trace the scientific keys that gave rise to the creative genius of the author, and the different theories that have seen summarized in this story the problem of sciences and technologies that seem to transgress absolute limits, denaturalize own nature and endanger humanity.
We especially appreciate the collaboration of Alfonso Rodríguez Baeza, director of the Department of Morphological Sciences, Anatomy and Human Embryology and award of Professional Excellence in Medical Education, and Jorge Molero Mesa, coordinator of the Medicine History Unit, for the transfer of anatomical models and of the devices and instruments that are shown in the showcase that completes the exhibition.
