World Day for Audiovisual Heritage

“Your Window to the World” is the motto chosen to celebrate the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage 2023; an initiative of UNESCO and the Coordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations (CCAAA) to honour audiovisual preservation professionals and institutions that safeguard our heritage for future generations. 

As a window to the world, audiovisual heritage enables us to witness events we do not attend, listen to voices of the past, and create narratives that inform and entertain. 

Within the framework of UNESCO's lines of work for the preservation and dissemination of heritage, the Radio Sound Archive in Catalonia was born. The Sound Archive arises from the collaboration between the UAB Institute of Communication (InCom-UAB) and the UAB Communication Library and General Newspaper Archive and is part of the digital project of the Observatory of Communication in Catalonia (OCC InCom-UAB). 

The Arxiu is a “window to the world” aimed at the preservation and dissemination of our sound heritage, making it accessible to the general public and ensuring its conservation for future generations.
