28/03/2022

Radio frequency identification or RFID is the technology that allows wireless transmission of data. RFID chips and readers can be incorporated into documents and replace barcode technologies in the identification and circulation of the library's holdings.

This technology change began in 2021 and involved the labeling of 140,000 documents, the renovation of security equipment and the installation of self-loan machines.

Thanks to the new system, the loan of documents is streamlined, and it would be easier for the user to carry out the process. It improves the security systems of the holdings, the identification and inventory of documents, and the information of library occupancy.

The project to implement the RFID system will continue during 2022 and 2023, so that all UAB Libraries will have this technology available in their facilities and available holdings.
