¡Somos Cuba!

Carme Aldana Carballo portrays the atmosphere of Cuban cities in black and white

26/04/2021

The hall of the Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives hosts the photographic exhibition “¡Somos Cuba!” ("We are Cuba!") by Carme Aldana Carballo.

Her photographs, taken during a tour of the island, portray life on the streets of Havana and Trinidad.

“While it is true that, when I arrived in Cuba, my photographic expectations were full of light and color, music and rhythm... when I arrived in Havana, when I talked to the Cubans, when I felt what Cuba was in all its splendor, the photos changed, they left the color, and as a photographer friend, Jordi Galderic, says: << if you want to photograph a person’s clothes, photograph them in color; if you want to photograph his soul, do it in black and white...>> and so it was that, unwittingly, to me, Cuba came out in black and white.
