Imaginary architectures: architecture and cinema

Arquitectures imaginàries
Exhibition at the Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives

12/02/2019

When adapting to the screen fantastic worlds from other media like literature, comics and  video-games, or because of a stylistic choice requiring the capture of a magic and unreal atmosphere, or simply because of an historic setting, films have needed from the very beginning to imagine architectures and landscapes out of the reach of the best location scouting.

The production design and art direction that later photographers and special effects technicians will translate to the screen allow directors to fulfill those fantastic views. Miniatures, mate paintings and computer generated graphics are the means used to allow us to see postcards of other worlds, of non existent cities and of times past.

In this exhibition, located in the cabinets at the lobby of the Communication Library and Newspaper Archive, you’ll find documents with examples of those techniques and movies that stand out because of its extraordinary production design.

If you are interested, you can ask for a list of the exhibition documents through the Pregunt@ service.
