Participate in the Casteller's world

Would you like to discover the world of the castellers?

Casteller performances are a tradition of popular culture deeply rooted in Catalan universities. The UAB’s casteller group, the Ganàpies, has nearly 30 years’ experience.

How a human tower works, basic safety rules and the art of human tower-building are just some of the topics you’ll learn about if you take part in this activity, but, above all, you’ll become part of one of the most established groups in our university community.

Below you will find the structure of this academically recognised activity:

1. Two face-to-face sessions covering the following content:

a) How the activity works, its academic recognition and structure.

b) Safety and basic knowledge of castelles construction.

c) The history of the world of castelles and university teams.

 

2. Casteller training sessions: Participation in the casteller group’s rehearsals, both the regular ones — on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm — and the extra sessions, during which specific techniques are practised or preparations are made for a particular event, as well as participation in at least two events representing the UAB, and the December event, which will take place on the UAB campus.

Initial face-to-face sessions: 13 October, at 4.00 pm and 5.30 pm, at the Hotel d’Entitats.

Deadline for the casteller practice session: 27 October, at 4.00 pm and 5.30 pm, at the Hotel d’Entitats.

Participation in this activity may be recognised with 2 ECTS credits. To obtain the certificate of academic recognition, participants must have attended both theory sessions, two days of casteller training outside the UAB, the UAB winter session, and at least 80 per cent of the casteller practice hours.
