Violence and discrimination
UAB free from misogynistic and queerphobic violence
The UAB is committed to abolishing misogynistic and queerphobic violence. For this reason, the project UAB free from violence project was started in 2013 in response to line 4.5 “Design and implement a proposal for the complete eradication of gender violence and abusive relations, increasing institutional coordination and including a protocol and a reporting and assistance procedure for cases of sexual harassment for reasons of sex and sexual orientation” of the UAB’s Third Gender Equality Action Plan.
The Plan’s main objectives are the following:
- Offering visibility, raising awareness and preventing misogynistic and queerphobic violence through studies, campaigns and teaching workshops.
- Giving the University resources to address any cases of misogynistic and queerphobic violence that might happen in our Campus.
- Addressing and informing on the resources available in cases of misogynistic and queerphobic violence.
- Establishing coordination mechanisms of the agents involved.
The Equality and Diversity Service has many resources to offer people experiencing misogynistic or queerphobic violence:
- Protocol to prevent and act against sexual and sex-based harassment, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, and male chauvinist violence. Activating the protocol allows us to offer counselling and free specialised psychological support..
- Basic guide of the rights of women experiencing misogynistic violence
- The Masculinity Work Space
- La Comunitària’s Purple Point
- Assistance for people in this situation
- Handbook against sexism and gender violence within UAB's associations aiming to incorporate gender perspective and procedures to address misogynistic violence within the organisation.

Further information
Recommendations to prevent and fight sexual harassment in academia The document contains a compilation of recommendations established and signed by the seven universities that are part of the EGERA project, of which the UAB is a member through the Equality and Diversity Service. These recommendations seek to prevent and fight against sexual harassment in academic institutions. “Academic institutions should therefore strongly reject any form of sexual harassment. They should prevent sexual harassment where possible and fight it where necessary.”
