Commitment, Awareness, and Action: The UAB Commemorates November 25
To mark 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Equality and Diversity Service is organizing a series of activities aimed at the entire university community. This year, the core theme focuses on training and raising awareness among men in the university community, with the goal of fostering collective reflection on the need to eradicate all forms of gender-based violence.
The main commemorative event will take place on Tuesday, 25 November, in Plaça del Coneixement, and will include several activities designed to raise awareness of this struggle and reaffirm the institution’s commitment to equality:
- 12:15 p.m. Planting of purple flowers, an initiative led by Talher.
- 12:30h. Reading of the institucional manifesto against gender-based violence by the Secretary General, Esther Zapater.
- 12:35h. One minute of silence in remembrance of all victims.
- 12:36h. Performance by the UAB Chamber Choir, which will conclude the event.
In addition, on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, the discussion session “Gender-based violence within the University and new perspectives on justice and community” will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Faculty of Science (room C3B/013). This session is part of the workshops promoted by Fil a l’Agulla, “The Men We Want to Be”, and aims to generate debate among participating men and exchange perspectives on how to address gender-based violence from a position of privilege. Registration will be open until Friday, 14 November.
Finally, on Tuesday, 26 November, the UAB Cinema Hall will host, at 11:00 a.m., the lecture “New/Old Masculinities to Rethink Ways of Being Man/Men)”, delivered by Diego Falconi Trávez, lecturer in the Bachelor’s Degree in Sociocultural Gender Studies.
Violence against women remains one of the most serious and persistent violations of human rights worldwide—a reality that highlights both the depth of the problem and the urgency of building a collective, determined, and sustained response. Only through the commitment and involvement of society as a whole will it be possible to ensure that all women can live free from violence, fear, and discrimination. In this context, the UAB reaffirms its determination to prevent gender-based violence, raise awareness, and combat all forms of sexism, with the aim of establishing itself as a space of equality, diversity, and respect within a social environment still marked by injustice and gender-based violence.
