Cinema, sport and inclusion: participation in the International Congress on (In)Equalities in Sport
On September 30, 2025, Ludovico Longhi, researcher at the Olympic Studies Centre (CEO-UAB) within the Sport Research Institute (IRE-UAB), took part in the 1st International Congress on (In)Equalities in Sport: Challenges from a Gender Perspective, held at the Carlos III University of Madrid.

Professor Longhi presented a paper entitled Gender and Ethnicity Analysis in A League of Their Own and 42 for a Critical Pedagogy, developed together with team members Leonor Balbuena and Daniel Arrébola.
The work is part of the project Sport on Screen, funded by the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising at UAB, which explores the potential of sports cinema to raise awareness among audiences about gender and ethnic inclusion in the sports field.
Through the analysis of the films A League of Their Own (Penny Marshall, 1992) and 42 (Brian Helgeland, 2013), the research addresses themes such as resilience, sisterhood, and resistance to structural discrimination, highlighting how cinema can become a pedagogical tool to foster debate on equality and diversity.
The study aims to generate critical educational materials, such as discussion guides and analysis sheets, designed to work with young people and promote active reflection on the values of inclusion and respect in sport.
