Training on sexual violence has been carried out at UAB delegates and associations

On June 27th and 28th, the Observatory for Equality and the UAB Community Involvement Unit carried out a pilot test of the course Sexual Violence at the University: recognizing, accompanying and rethinking strategies of response consisting of a 10-hour training course at 13 UAB students.

This training action is part of the Universities Supporting Victims of Sexual Violence (USVSV) project, coordinated by Brunel University in London and co-financed by the European Commission, of which the Autonomous University of Barcelona is a partner. The training is part of the actions that are being carried out to implement the Protocol against sexual harassment and harassment on grounds of sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression by the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

People who have received the course have a reference role for their position and participation in the University, as class delegates or members of associations. For their position, it is important that they have tools and training to identify, recognize and accompany cases of sexual violence that could be given at the UAB, and face them in the most appropriate way.

The course has been taught in collaboration by the Observatory for Equality of the UAB and the UAB Community Involvement Unit, and has worked on concepts such as: the meaning of sexual violence; the culture of consent as opposed to the culture of rape; the different expressions of sexual violence in universities; the legislative framework; the role of intersectionality, gender and power relations in cases of sexual violence; the influence of prejudice and point of view on the understanding of sexual violence; tools, services and strategies to give a first response; the resources of the UAB; university regulations and, finally, the function of the Protocol against sexual harassment and harassment on the grounds of sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression by the UAB.

Pilot tests adressed to working staff and teaching staff are scheduled for September.
