Each issue of History of Psychology (the journal of the Society for the History of Psycholog, of the American Psychological Association, APA) highlights one article with an “Editor’s Choice” designation. The selection is based on the article's potential to be of interest to as wide a range of readers as possible.

The featured article in the issue published in August 2026 (volume 29, number 3) is “On the prowl for disciplinary vassals: Neurologists, psychiatrists, and clinical psychologists discuss science, technology, and profession at the National Research Council’s Conference on Relations of Psychiatry to Psychology (1921)” by iHC researcher Catriel Fierro. The editors have highlighted Fierro’s work for its exceptional importance and impact.

Fierro’s research reconstructs the joint conference on the “Relations of Psychiatry to Psychology” organized by the U.S. National Research Council in 1921—a complex and rapidly changing decade in mental hygiene, marked by institutional innovation, professional development, and the expanding reconceptualization of mental disease and maladjustment.
