PREHISTOPIRINEO
Settlement and Lifestyles during the Final Pleistocene and Holocene in the Eastern Pre-Pyrenees.
This project continues a long-term initiative that began in 2004, focused on various sites in the Noguera region (Lleida), especially regarding the Roca dels Bous and Cova Gran de Santa Linya sites. The progress made over these years has centered on analyzing the presence of the first settlers in the eastern Pre-Pyrenees (Homo neanderthalensis), with an emphasis on the emergence of modern humans (Homo sapiens) during MIS 3. This project explores the archaeological potential of other phases in this archaeological sequence, associated with the last hunter-gatherers and the emergence of a production-based economy in the Marginal Ranges of the Lleida Pre-Pyrenees, focusing on both Cova Gran de Santa Linya and the Cova del Tabac site.
