Doctoral Programme

The Doctoral Programme in Prehistoric Archaeology, jointly offered by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Universidad de Cantabria, is aimed at training researchers interested in understanding human societies that developed during prehistory through specific research, which must culminate in the completion of a doctoral thesis.

The programme is intended for students who wish to engage with the latest theoretical and methodological trends, as well as with emerging new disciplines in the field.

The training and research proposals seek to balance theory, methodology, and empirical research. This is strengthened by integration with active research projects, fostering a productive relationship and enhancing the connection between research and teaching.

The programme is developed by two universities in Spain (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Universidad de Cantabria) and includes the participation of the Milà i Fontanals Institution of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Barcelona.

The inclusion of researchers from the Milà i Fontanals Institution of the CSIC is also unique in our field. It not only brings valuable teaching resources but also offers students an innovative perspective within the institutional research structure of the country, complementing the academic viewpoint.
