Welcome to the Department of Prehistory of the Autonomous University of Barcelona! 

The Department of Prehistory is a leading research center in prehistoric archaeology in Spain and one of the most internationally recognized departments in the state, with a long history in the fields of archaeology, landscape studies, archaeological sciences and digital technologies applied to research, conservation and accessibility to archaeological heritage.

Its laboratories offer a unique environment for advancing knowledge and developing essential and transferable skills relevant to professional practice. These range from training in osteology, archaeobotany, archaeozoology, and paleoproteomics to practical skills in fieldwork and excavation, as well as the use of geographic information systems and the interdisciplinary analysis of artifacts and museum collections.

We are strongly committed to the public dimension of archaeological research. Our work embraces universal access to scientific knowledge, incorporates feminist perspectives, challenges social inequalities, promotes ecologically sustainable models of coexistence, and defends historical and cultural memory. These values are reflected in our research, the training we provide to our students, and the programmes and activities we organize.
