BRONZEPEOPLE
People, Mobility and Networks in Bronze Age Iberia
The BRONZEPEOPLE Project (2025–2029) investigates the diversity of and interactions between communities across the Iberian Peninsula during the Bronze Age, with the aim of understanding the factors that drove social and regional inequalities and economic centralisation. Rather than focusing exclusively on the most complex and archaeologically prominent societies, the project adopts an integrative perspective that enables the study of the different trajectories of communities and their relationships.
Through an interdisciplinary approach combining the study of demographic change, ancient DNA, human mobility, the circulation of raw materials and goods, and network analysis, BRONZEPEOPLE will reconstruct the exchange, communication and interaction networks that connected Iberian communities. The study of copper and bronze axes, grinding tools, and clays used for ceramic production will make it possible to explore how people, materials and knowledge circulated, as well as differences in economic and mobility practices between women and men. This perspective will contribute to a deeper understanding of the social and geopolitical diversity of prehistoric Iberia.
