What are micro-credentials?
The Spanish Law 2/2023, on University System (LOSU) and the Royal Decree 822/2021 have included the continuing education as a special dimension into the teaching role of the University. Among the possible strategies carried out by the university to fulfill its continuing education programmes, micro-credentials are found.
These micro-credential programmes or micro-modules are:
- Specific and short formation programmes, designed to fit into the skill and competence needs of the society and the labor market, that give rights to obtain a digital, verifiable certification that guarantees that a specific skill has been obtained.
- Flexible and adaptable to the student needs, they allow the student to manage their personal and professional responsabilities whie studying. Those programmes can be offered in a modular structure, allowing the student to do them independently or following a personalised path. Then, several micro-credentials can be collected to acces a broader set of knowledge and skills, recognised with other degrees of certificates.
Micro-credentials are inside the "Plan on Recover, Transformation and Resilience - Financed by the EU - Nextgeneration funds"
Those studies have a 70% public funding, so only a 30% must be payed by the student enrolment. They are addressed to people living in Spain, aged between 25 and 64 years, besides any specific criteria established by each micro-credential.
