Self-driving cars are on the rise, becoming a reality in various scenarios and technologies that operate in the world of mobility, as well as in public and private safety. However, these advances in the automation of driving bring with them a series of challenges, both for companies and for lawyers and authorities at global, European, national and local levels.

Challenges of driving automation: a cross-cutting challenge

The congress, which will feature a panel of top-level speakers in a dynamic and entertaining face-to-face and hybrid format, will address issues such as:

  • The automation of automobile functions, which implies a change of roles for the driver who must ensure safety.
  • Regulatory challenges in various areas such as vehicle insurance, traffic accidents or civil and criminal liability.
  • The driving of drones with multiple uses, both recreational and for security purposes, which involves ethical and legal challenges, affecting fundamental rights, such as those related to privacy.
  • In the navigability of autonomous ships, various issues arise in relation to their regulation, as well as possible accidents in the transport of goods.

Specialised national and international speakers, such as renowned jurists, engineers, experts and public safety professionals, as well as experts from the academic field, will give presentations during the two days of the congress, which will be structured around thematic panels.

The opening conference will be given by the director of Prevention and Integral Safety - FUAB Training School, Montserrat Iglesias-Lucía, while Eliseo Sierra Noguero, principal investigator of the Autonomous Driving and Legal Safety of Transport (ADLAW) project, will be responsible for the closing conference.

The congress has the support of entities such as the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, the Spanish Journal of Insurance, the International Association of Insurance Law-Spanish Section, ADLAW and Adevic.
