Laboratory of Experimental Prehistoric Technology.

LATPE develops several lines of research related to Late Prehistory in the Mediterranean, the interdisciplinary advancement of archaeological research, and strategies for the enhancement, dissemination, and conservation of heritage.

Our work focuses particularly on the study of production and use processes of tools in prehistory, applying an experimental approach as a fundamental method for hypothesis testing and analysis. We conduct experimental projects on knapped stone tools, macrolithic implements, bone industry, and artifacts made from fibers and wood, among others.

At LATPE, we offer services in the analysis of prehistoric archaeological materials, expert assessments, archaeological excavation development, design of heritage outreach and engagement initiatives, as well as museum consulting and the design and production of educational materials to promote the understanding of prehistory.
