Laboratory of Archaeobotany

Laboratory of Archaeobotany (2021 SGR 00190).

Archaeobotany focuses on the study of plants used by past societies—specifically, which plants were used, how they were obtained, how they were processed, and how they were used or consumed. It also aims to investigate the environments in which these past societies lived.

To achieve these goals, the discipline studies plant remains recovered from archaeological sites or associated contexts. Plant remains can be preserved in different states depending on the context from which they originate, and they require specific recovery and analytical techniques.
