Coursera for UAB

Coursera for UAB

More than 5,000 courses with free certification

In November 2019, "Coursera for the UAB" was launched, as a result of an agreement between the UAB and Coursera. This agreement allows all UAB members (students, faculty, and administrative and service staff) to take all UAB-produced MOOCs and specialized courses and programs free of charge (including certification), as well of part of the courses offered by Coursera.

To enjoy this free access, you simply need to be registered on Coursera with your UAB institutional email address (autonoma.cat for students and uab.cat for faculty and administrative staff).

I am not registered on Coursera.

You can register on Coursera at http://www.uab.cat/coursera. Remember that you must use your UAB institutional email address.

I'm already registered, but not with the institutional email address.

If you are already registered on Coursera, but with an email address other than your UAB institutional email (autonoma.cat for students and uab.cat for faculty and staff), to access Coursera's benefits for UAB users, you need to change the email address in your Coursera profile.

To do this, log in to Coursera as you normally would, and:

  • On the user button (top right) select the “Settings” option.
  • In the “Email Address” field, enter your institutional email address.
  • Click the “Save” button.

Once done, log out and log back into Coursera using the address http://www.uab.cat/coursera.

How to access Coursera benefits for UAB

Once registered, to be eligible for the benefits for the UAB community, log in to Coursera with the address http://www.uab.cat/coursera and with your institutional email address (@uab.cat or @autonoma.cat). You will find the catalog of MOOC courses produced by the UAB.

The first time, a message will appear inviting you to the “Coursera for UAB” program. Click on the “Join program” button.

You are now in the UAB MOOC course catalog and you can take all of them for free, with Coursera certification.

To access the rest of Coursera's courses (which are paid), choose the "Coursera. Individual Learning" option from the dropdown menu in the upper left corner.

How to access the benefits of “Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona on Coursera”

You can also take take a lot of Coursera's MOOCs and specializations for free, with Coursera certification (if you are registered with your institutional email address @uab.cat or @autonoma.cat). To access these courses, select the "Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona on Coursera" option from the dropdown menu in the upper left corner.

If you do not see this option, and only the options “Coursera for UAB” and “Coursera. Individual Learning”, notify the UAB MOOC program (mooc@uab.cat) and we will send you an invitation to access it.

On the page that appears when you select the "Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona on Coursera" option, you will find all the courses that offer free certification for the UAB community. Clicking on a course included in the offering will display the course information, and below the enroll button, you will see "Access sponsored by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona".

Unlock a free course

If you enrolled in a free course before joining the “Coursera for UAB” program, you will need to unlock it to make it free. When you access the second module of the course, you will see a message.

Click on the “Unlock full access” button and it will allow you to continue the course for free.

Obtain a certificate for a previously completed course

If you have previously completed any UAB MOOCs or any courses included in the agreement with Coursera before registering for Coursera for UAB, your academic record will be automatically transferred to Coursera for UAB. Therefore, you can continue the course if you haven't finished it, or request a free certificate if you have already passed but haven't requested it (you can request it in Accomplishments, under the user button).

If it does not appear in Accomplishments, re-enroll in the course and the transfer of your file will be processed.

If it still doesn't appear, check that you have passed all the required quizzes and activities (if any). If so, follow these steps:

1.- To obtain the Coursera certificate, you must have verified your name:

  • On the user button (top right) choose the My courses option.
  • In the menu on the left, choose the Accomplishments option.
  • Click the Verify my name button. Fill in the fields.

2.- Coursera sends an email to confirm your email address. If you haven't confirmed it, you won't be able to get the certificate. You can check if you haven't done so, like this:

  • On the user button (top right) choose the My courses option.
  • In the menu on the left, choose the Updates option.
  • If you have not confirmed your email address, a message will appear indicating this.
  • If, after checking everything, the link still doesn't appear, please let the MOOC team know:mooc@uab.cat.

Add training to your UAB CV

If you are a PAS or PDI, you can request that the UAB Training Unit incorporate the training into your curriculum by sending them the certification obtained, either through physical or electronic registration of the UAB.
