International Chair in Olympism

The International Chair in Olympism was created in 1995 from a collaboration agreement between the UAB and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is managed by the CEO-UAB. Its main objective is to promote, at the university level, research, training and dissemination of the ideals of the Olympic movement, and to promote cooperation between the International Olympic Committee and the universities, especially with regard to the social sciences and the Humanities.

The Chair, together with the IOC Olympic Studies Centre, has co-organized so far five symposia and has co-edited publications in which it has analyzed topics such as the Olympic Villages, the Olympic ceremonies, volunteers, television and the Olympic Games, the Internet and Olympism. Since 1995, the Chair has invited 18 prestigious academic experts in the fields of social sciences and humanities as International Professors in Olympism.

Within the framework of the Chair, the International Olympic Committee has entrusted the CEO-UAB with carrying out various studies, including studies on television coverage of the Olympic Games, the Olympic program, Olympic education initiatives promoted within the Olympic Movement and a strategic project in the way of developing its policies regarding the international university community.
