Euraxess Initiatives

Second meeting of the early stage researchers working group
This session was focused on making improvement suggestions in aspects such as welcome, supervision, training and professional career of young researchers.
Open, Transparent and Merit-based Recruitment (OTM-R)
OTM-R is one of the pillars of the European Charter for Researchersand in particular of the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, launched in 2005. This process ensures that the best person for the job is recruited, thus bringing benefits to researchers, institutions and the wider research system. More specifically, OTM-R makes research careers more attractive, ensures equal opportunities for all candidates and facilitates mobility. Overall, it will contribute to an increase in the cost-effectiveness of investments in research.
The EC Working Group issued a comprehensive package for assisting RPOs to implement OTM-R practices. It allows RPOs to review their current recruitment policy and improve it, if/when needed. The package includes principles and guidelines on what an OTM-R System should look like, a checklist for institutions as a self-assessment tool to benchmark their current practices on the principles and the toolkit: a step-by-step guide to improve (if, when and where needed) the organisation‘s OTM-R practices.
Using those criteria and the Euraxess OTM-R checklist as a self-assessment tool, the UAB drafted some documents to determine the status of our OTM-R practices ovr time and the possible improvements.
OTM-R WORKING GROUP
In 2016, a specific working group for OTM-R issues was appointed at UAB. That group, that regularly gathers together, is composed by personnel from the following units:
- Strategic Projects
- Organization and Planning
- Human Resources
- Research Management
The checklists have set the agenda of the several meetings held in all these years:

The Doctoral School offers an online course to make the Euraxess initiative more familiar to PhD candidates.
Those meetings will focus on aspects such as the dissemination of the Euraxess initiative and the improvement of the processes of recruitment and support of international researchers.
Last Wednesday 15th May the HRS4R-UAB working group met to review the goals that have been achieved so far in the application of the 40 principles of the Charter and Code for researchers.
