Application to be university-affiliated researchers of the UAB
Agents of the public sector's research, development, and innovation system, among which is the UAB, must promote and facilitate the mobility of their research staff with other agents of the same system or external ones, in accordance with the provisions of the Science Act (Act 9/2022, of December 21, on Science), the State Act on Science, Technology, and Innovation (Act 17/2022, of September 5, amending Act 14/2011), as well as university legislation and the UAB's own regulations.
DEFINITION
University-affiliated researchers (IVU) are defined as doctoral research staff from other universities or other public or private entities (home institution), who carry out research tasks at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona to execute research, development, and innovation projects and for knowledge and technology transfer under a collaboration agreement signed between the UAB and the other university or institution.

Affiliated research staff must always maintain a valid employment contract with their home institution.
To request affiliation with the UAB, the researcher must hold a PhD degree and must be assigned to a department, research institute, study centre, or other UAB research structure.
The period of affiliation as an IVU at the UAB may not exceed four years and can be renewed through the submission of a new application.
APPLICATION
To initiate the recognition procedure as an IVU, the interested person must meet the necessary criteria and submit all required documentation in PDF format, duly electronically signed. You can check the digital certificates recognized at the UAB on the e-Office website.
- Formal application from the interested person to obtain IVU status at the UAB
- Approval of the legal representative of the home institution where the person requesting IVU recognition is employed
- Approval of the director of the UAB department or institute hosting the IVU
You must also attach to the application a copy of your:
- NIF / NIE / Passport
- PhD degree
These five documents must be submitted to the UAB Electronic Registry 15 (calendar) days prior to the meeting of the Research, Transfer, Innovation, and Doctorate Committee.
RESOLUTION
Recognition as a University-affiliated Researcher (IVU) is subject to a favourable report from the UAB Research, Knowledge Transfer, Innovation and Doctoral Studies Committee (CRTID). The Committee may issue this report once the required documentation has been duly reviewed and validated by the Research Contracts and Agreements Unit (UCC).
Once the approval of the CRTID is obtained, the affiliation agreement will be signed by the legal representatives of the entities involved and by the interested person.

- Proposed affiliation agreement: If any modifications need to be made to the wording of the agreement, they must be sent to agr.convenis@uab.cat , also 15 (calendar) days prior to the date of the CRTID committee meeting.
Once the agreement has been signed, the UCC will duly inform the destination department or institute and the Human Resources Management Area, to carry out the relevant actions resulting from the formalization of the agreement and the recognition of the researcher as an IVU.
