MEXICATAS

Eight Mexican actresses tell us, with a special sense of humor, some drops of drama, four or five songs and a great display of energy, their experiences (private and collective) in their exile on Spanish lands or, more specifically, Catalan lands.

In twelve independent and minimalist scenes, Ariadna, Esmeralda, Lupe, Marisol, Merlene, Mónica, Nadia and Thania, through their voices, their words and their bodies, will try to understand how to live Mexico from an unwanted distance and how Spain and Catalonia look from the distance of a bittersweet banishment. Airs, aromas, sounds and deeply Mexican species mixed with the soft moist, sticky and treacherous breeze of the Mediterranean.

A play with dramaturgy by Sergi Belbel and directed by a close collaborator of him, Antonio Calvo, it is based on the experiences of eight Mexicans: licensed actresses in the same theatre school in Mexico City, and all but one resident in Barcelona. One day, two of them went to find Belbel when he was giving a lecture in the Beckett room and they said to him: 'we want you to do a play for us'.
