Abstract

The relatively recent technological advances (e.g., artificial intelligence) and the dissemination of digital technologies are broadening the ways in which the entrepreneur can start-up and  operate a business. The ease of start-up procedures and online trading platforms can also affect the aspirations of those who seek to become entrepreneurs, and consequently their well-being. This paper investigates the effects of technology on entrepreneurship and well-being using rich socioeconomic data from the UK Household Longitudinal Study (UKHLS). The results offer strong support that internet access and the frequent use of the internet offer economic benefits and encourage entrepreneurial aspirations. Moreover, the results on the effects of these technology indicators on well-being suggest the existence of important differences between rural and urban areas.
