Time, Work and Everyday Life

This research area addresses some of the most socially significant issues of our time. The interaction between work and family life, and its impact on the way time is allocated and organised, constitutes a well-established field of research at the IET.

Research in this area includes:

• The study of time use and everyday life, focusing primarily on the relationship between time devoted to paid work and time devoted to unpaid work, particularly domestic and care work.

• The analysis of time-use strategies, both within companies and institutions and among individuals, as well as the negotiation of time in everyday life, including the relationship between working time, domestic time, urban schedules and other dimensions of daily life.

• The study of policies aimed at organising people’s time and everyday lives, particularly policies designed to facilitate the reconciliation of work, family and personal life.
