For the ninth consecutive year the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting hosted the awards ceremony of the Giovanni Pontiero Prize for Translation organised by the Faculty and the Centro de Língua Portuguera / Instituto Camões de Barcelona in honour of the great translator Giovanni Pontiero (Glasgow 1932 - Manchester 1996).

On odd years the award goes to the Catalan translation of a literary work written originally in Portuguese and published during the two-year period prior to when it is included in the translation competition. On even years the award goes to the Spanish translation of a literary work written originally in Portuguese and published during the two-year period prior to when it is included in the translation competition.

It is one of the most important translation prizes awarded in Spain and some of the prize translations include prestigious works by Fernando Pessoa, Antonio Lobo Antunes or Sofia de MelBreyner.

This year's edition will be presented by Bonaventura Bassegoda, UAB's Vice-Rector for Social and Cultural Transfer; Francesc Parcerisas, Dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting; Helena Tanqueiro, Director of Instituto Camões de Barcelona; and Pilar Orero, Marcel Ortín, Joan Sellent and Joan Torruella, members of the "Amics de Giovanni Pontiero" association.
