The UAB Sports Research Institute co-organizes the IACS 2023 Summit on Communication & Sport in Barcelona from 9 to 11 March, 2023

For the first time, the conference of the principal scientific association in communication and sport will land in Europe. The UAB and the University of Alabama will be the co-host universities of the event.

Sport offers a privileged setting for analysing and exploring trends of the great challenges of the communication sector

The international academic community in sports communication is called to participate in the event that has become a benchmark in the United States.

Call for papers is open until September 23, 2022. Contributions can be submitted from any perspective on communication and sport. Proposals must be submitted through the IACS2023 platform. They must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another conference or journal. For any questions about proposals, you may contact Evan Frederick at evan.frederick@louisville.edu.

The IACS Summit is the only conference aimed at communication researchers with an interest in exploring sport from a critical, methodological, theoretical and multidisciplinary perspective.

The conference will be held from March 9 to 11 2023 in Barcelona, ​​at the centrally located Gallery Hotel. Registration fee is €200 for researchers and €140 for students (the cost includes reception); there will be special discounts to stay in the same hotel: €146 per night (breakfast included).

Emilio Fernández Peña, director of the Institute and senior lecturer at the UAB Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising, is a member of the Organizing Committee, along with doctors Evan Frederick (Chair IACS), Angela Pratt (Vice-Chair IACS), Karen Hartman (Executive Director IACS) and Andrew Billings (University of Alabama).

The UAB has a long history in communication and sport studies, particularly in aspects related to communication and the Olympic Games. The UAB Sports Research Institute brings together UAB research staff who work on aspects related to communication and sports from a multidisciplinary perspective: gender, fiction, social networks, sponsorship, marketing, branding, etc.
