The Deputy Head of Olympic Studies at the Sport Research Institute at UAB has conducted a seminar during the international gathering of young ambassadors held in Greece.
The seminar enhances the transfer of academic knowledge into the digital strategies of the next generation of international Olympic leaders.
Emilio Fernández Peña, Deputy Head of Olympic Studies at the Sport Research Institute (IRE-UAB) and Head of the Olympic Studies Centre at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (CEO-UAB), traveled to Olympia, Greece, as a guest lecturer invited by the International Olympic Academy (IOA). Within the framework of the 66th International Session for Young Olympic Ambassadors, a global event gathering young sports leaders from various countries, the communication professor shared his expertise in Olympic media studies. The event took place at the academy's historical facilities, strengthening the institutional connection with the research developed at UAB.
The main session led by Emilio consisted of a workshop titled "Young Olympic Ambassadors on Social Media," where the core focus was personal branding through social networks. Held as a practical seminar designed to provide specific digital communication tools to the participants, the workshop analyzed how new content creators and institutional representatives can harness the potential of virtual environments to promote sports values and the Olympic Movement worldwide. The session combined theoretical frameworks with interactive group dynamics, challenging the audience's communication skills and digital strategies.
Emilio's background as a member of the Scientific Committee of the IOA and Co-Editor of Diagoras was highlighted by the organization during this international workshop. His career includes creating the massive open online course "The Olympic Games and the Media," which has reached over eight thousand students globally, establishing him as a leading expert in Olympic media studies. This collaboration emphasizes the institute's commitment to bridging academic research in communication with practical training for future generations of sports professionals.
