The Foundation has been involved in several multimedia projects to raise awareness about FGM, and to promote the transmission of traditional values without this practice.
Initiation Without Mutilation
The documentary opens a window to a deeply rooted rite of passage for girls into womanhood, while offering a culturally sensitive alternative: to preserve the socio-cultural meaning of the practice that gives gender and ethnic identity, while the physical stage is excluded.
A Future Without Mutilation
Through the testimonies of Gambian health professionals, students, tutors and community leaders, empowered with knowledge, we can see a shift in opinions and attitudes towards a preventive approach, allowing us to envision a future without FGM/C.
Vital Cycle and Survival
As a result of an extensive ethnographic work in the regions of The Gambia, Senegal and Guinea-Bissau, this documentary provides a comprehensive perspective of people's ideas, thoughts and beliefs.
FGM International Forum
On November 19, 20, and 21, 2018, the first International Forum on FGM was held in Barcelona. With the title “Exploring strategies and good practices – From local to global” the event held at the CaixaForum brought together health, social services, and law professionals, public policymakers, activists, and members of the migrant community with a sub-Saharan origin. In the video, you can relive the most interesting moments of this meeting that allowed us to build bridges in common to continue advancing together towards the defense of human rights and sexual and reproductive rights.
In 2009 the International Forum on Harmful Traditional Practices held in Brufut, The Gambia, engaged Government authorities, UN agencies, religious leaders and development partners in a comprehensive and courageous Public Declaration breaking the silence on FGM/C in the country.
