Gene therapy protects against age-related cognitive and memory deficits
Researchers from the INc-UAB and the VHIR are the first to demonstrate that regulation of the brain's Klotho gene using gene therapy protects against age-related learning and memory problems in mice. The therapy has been patented and licensed to advance in the research of a drug for neurodegenerative diseases.
The Gegants return to the UAB in celebration of its 50th anniversary
In commemoration of its 50th anniversary, the university's giant costumed figures created in 1988, known as Gegants, have returned to the UAB. Members of the Colla gegantera of Molins de Rei, in charge of restoring the giants, were also in charge of parading them during the Festa Major which took place on 9 November.
Bicycle Day at the UAB
On 31 October the UAB will celebrate its annual Bicycle Day. As part of the Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week, the university offers activities for the whole university community.
International experts to create a world map of reproductive policies
Creating a map of changes in reproductive and social policies existing around the world, from Israel and United States to India and Spain, is the objective of the X AFIN International Conference: Reproductive Politics, Rights and Desires, organised by the UAB and the UB, and which will be held on 2 to 4 November.

All Catalan universities give support to the initiative of creating an independent committee for mediation, dialogue and reconciliation launched by the Barcelona Bar Association and other civil society entities.
The UAB adheres to the 15-minute halt
Due to the imprisonment of the leaders of Òmnium Cultural and Assemblea Nacional Catalana, ordered yesterday by the Audiencia Nacional, and based on a full confidence in judicial independence, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona laments what it considers a totally disproportionate and inappropriate measure. For this reason, the university today adhered to the call for a 15-minute halt at 12 noon, which took place in front of all teaching centres, with the aim of expressing rejection towards the imprisonment of Jordi Sánchez and Jordi Cuixart, at a moment in which dialogue and negotiations should be the options taken in solving the political disagreement existing today in Catalonia.
The UAB comes together to demand dialogue and to protest against recent imprisonments
Today, 17 October, the UAB held a demonstration in front of its different teaching centres in protest of the imprisonment of Jordi Sánchez and Jordi Cuixart. Rector Arboix affirmed that the UAB "will always be in favour of dialogue and the reinforcement of democracy".
