Message from the Dean

Our Faculty opened its doors on 20 October 1971, shortly after the creation of the Unviersitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), which today ranks among the leading universities in national and international rankings. The Faculty initially focused on Law studies, but over the years it has expanded its academic offer to include Labour Relations (introduced in 1991) and Criminology (introduced in 2009). In the 2021–2022 academic year, the Faculty celebrated its 50th anniversary with a series of commemorative events. Throughout five decades of teaching and research, thousands of professionals have been trained in our classrooms. The Faculty has become a national and international benchmark in the academic world, hosting numerous conferences, symposia, and congresses featuring distinguished scholars and professionals of recognized prestige.

Our goal is to continue strengthening excellence in teaching, research, and knowledge transfer, thereby reinforcing our commitment to the principles of a public, sustainable, high-quality university —one that serves society, fosters collaboration with its immediate surroundings, and builds partnerships that reach far beyond. Another of our priorities is to further enhance student mentoring and guidance, particularly in relation to career orientation, final degree projects, and curricular placements.

The Faculty of Law offers a broad and diverse range of programmes, including bachelor’s degrees in Law, Criminology, and Labour Relations, as well as five double degrees: Law and Business Administration, Law and Political Science, Law and Criminology, Law and International Relations, and Law and Labour Relations. Our postgraduate offer includes both official master’s degrees and UAB-specific master’s degrees, among which the Official Master’s Degree in Access to the Legal Profession and Legal Representation stands out. A particularly noteworthy innovation is that, from the 2026–2027 academic year, the Faculty will also offer a Double Degree in Criminology and Psychology. Across all these programmes, we aim to provide students with a solid theoretical foundation, practical skills, and technical preparation for entering the professions related to their studies. Our learning model is based on continuous assessment, cross-disciplinary knowledge, the integration of new technologies, the transmission of values, and the development of critical thinking and argumentation skills. For several years now, we have focused our teaching on competency-based learning, which is particularly reflected in the Law degree model, implemented five academic years ago. In this model, half of the teaching takes place in small groups or seminars, allowing for effective skills development. The high employability rate of our graduates confirms the success of this approach, which has also been recognized by the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU) with the Centre Accreditation awarded in the 2022–2023 academic year.

Our teaching staff are deeply committed to their educational mission. They include full-time faculty members and part-time lecturers who are active professionals, bringing valuable practical perspectives to the classroom. Another of our major assets is our collaboration with public administrations, law firms, companies, and other organizations, enabling students to undertake curricular placemenst and gain first-hand experience in professional environments.

Our strong international vocation is reflected in our extensive network of partner universities abroad. This includes the Double Degree in Spanish Law–French Law with the Universities of Toulouse Capitole I and Paris Panthéon-Assas, as well as numerous exchange opportunities under the Erasmus and other international mobility programmes.

In the 2025–2026 academic year, we will continue to strengthen our Legal Clinic, part of the Legal Studies and Opinions Service (SEDIJ), which integrates service-learning (SL) activities involving collaboration with social organizations. Our mission is to promote and implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a special focus on protecting vulnerable groups and addressing issues such as homelessness.
