University Master's Degree in Geoinformation
The University Master's Degree in Geoinformation goes beyond traditional academic training. Through an innovative methodology, it provides the tools and knowledge needed to understand how territory is analysed and managed. In a context where spatial data are essential for planning sustainable cities, addressing the challenges of climate change and improving quality of life, the Master's Degree offers training designed to equip professionals with a strong technological foundation and a strategic perspective.
One of its key strengths is the collaboration between the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, which coordinates the Master's Degree through teaching staff from the Department of Geography, and the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya, a leading institution in cartographic production and innovation in geospatial technologies. This partnership ensures high-quality training, providing access to cutting-edge knowledge applied to real-world cases.
One of the Master's Degree's distinctive features is its practical approach, based on a project-based learning model that focuses on solving real-world challenges rather than being limited to theoretical classes. Students work in teams to develop projects that integrate the knowledge acquired throughout the course, applying it to practical situations that simulate professional practice. Students complete two major projects: in the first semester, they develop a municipal GIS that enables them to understand territorial management, data integration, and the possibilities for visualising, sharing and analysing information. In the second semester, students specialising in Geoinformation Management focus on designing solutions to address the sustainability and resilience challenges arising from climate change and urban growth, while those specialising in Geospatial Application Development create a GeoApp that enables users to consult municipal data and services and report incidents. This methodology encourages creativity, decision-making and collaborative working, while allowing students to gain hands-on experience with tools and methodologies used in the sector.
Since the 2023–2024 academic year, the Master's Degree has organised a Training Complements Week aimed at expanding the geoinformation content acquired during the programme from an up-to-date perspective.
