INMIX

INMIX–Research Group on Immigration, Mixedness, and Social Cohesion

The INMIX is a multidisciplinary research team, with experienced researchers with training in different disciplines in the social sciences (such as social and cultural anthropology, geography, demography, sociology, social psychology and social work) and with an interdisciplinary approach that combines different methodologies (both quantitative and qualitative) and different analytical perspectives. The group was founded in 2012, and is now officially recognized as a Consolidated Research Group (2021SGR-00181) by the Agency for Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR), Catalan Government.

The main areas of research of The INMIX are the following:

1) International migration/mobility and the sociocultural integration processes of immigrants and their descendants.

2) Interethnic relations; multiculturalism and interculturalism; racism and discrimination.

3) Critical mixed-race studies: mixedness (intermarriage; mixed unions/families and descendants); multiracial and multiethnic identities.

The INMIX has conducted a number of research projects on this subject and is very committed to the dissemination and transfer of knowledge from academia to the political and civic spheres. We are interested in producing and disseminating a body of policy- and practice-relevant research to help bridge the research-policy divide, and to do so, we partake in conferences, debates, media releases, and different activities involving the civic and administrative spheres.

With an extensive academic international network, The INMIX has a permanent interest in conducting international comparisons and in collaborating with researchers from other countries. We are open to host academic visitors and researchers who wish to join the group with external funding. We are also open to discussing and supporting applications for pre- and postdoctoral researchers applying for funding to competitive calls such as FPU, FI, Juan de la Cierva, Ramon y Cajal, Margarita Salas, Maria Zambrano, Beatriu de Galindo, Marie Sk¿odowska-Curie, and ICREA Senior.

The group has a fully equipped office (the INMIX Lab, located at Office B9-133), that fosters collaboration and guidance in research and career development. Its members also have access to the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology’s central services (e.g. computers, internet access, administrative support, etc.).
