Quality

The UAB is home to a teaching staff of 3,615 who are responsible for the academic training of more than 45,000 students. The university provides quality teaching and research in the fields of social sciences, the humanities, experimental sciences, biosciences, health sciences, and engineering and technology.

UAB is internationally recognized for the quality and innovative character of its research and for its role as the coordinating center of a major science and technology hub: the UAB Sphere. This knowledge-generating and transferring activity is made evident by its quality programmes: 27 UAB PhD programmes of Royal Decree 1393/2007 were awarded the Excellence Award from the Ministry of Education.

For all this, UAB leads the university rankings of reference worldwide. It is the first university in Spain and the 146 best in the world according to the Times Higher Education Ranking 2015-2016 and one of the best 200 in the world according th the QS Ranking 2015-2016. The Times Higher Education ranking of top world universities under 50 years (150 Under 50) placed UAB in position 12 worldwide, and first of all Spanish universities. Recognition and awards

The following prizes and honours have been awarded in relation to this PhD programme.

  • Dr Jordi Catalan Aguilà was awarded the 2013 Prize for the Environment by the Institute of Catalan Studies for his contributions to the ecological and palaeo-ecological study of mountain lakes.
  • Dr Josep Peñuelas i Reixach has received the following distinctions: Comte de Barcelona Prize (1990), Institute of Catalan Studies - Banc de Sabadell Prize for the Environment (2008), Catalonia Research Prize (2010), Japanese Science Ministry Prize (1998).
  • Dr Jaume Terradas received the Narcis Monturiol Medal (1996), the 1998 Prize for the Environment of the Government of Catalonia (Generalitat), and the Prize for the Environment of the Institute of Catalan Studies - Banc de Sabadell (2002).

Grievance procedure

The UAB provides PhD students with The Electronic Office (section 'Consultes, suggeriments i/o queixes' ('Questions, suggestions and/or grievances')), the university's system to make suggestions or to air grievances.
