BIC: Bio-based Industries Consortium

The Bioindustries Consortium (BIC), of which UAB is an associate member, is a non-profit organization created in Brussels in 2013.

BIC's vision is to accelerate innovation and market uptake of bio-based products and services and to position Europe as a hub of sustainable circular bioeconomy. Its main objectives are:

  • To valorize renewable raw materials and bio-waste.
  • To produce food, bio-based products, services and energy with minimal environmental impact.
  • Promote sustainability and enhance biodiversity through the efficient use of raw materials with zero waste targets and good land use practices.
  • BIC members cover the entire bio-based value chain and consist of large industries, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), regional clusters, European trade associations and European technology platforms, research institutes and universities.

BIC and the European Union have created a new Public-Private Partnership (PPP), known as the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) and builds on its predecessor Bio-Based Industries (BBI JU) whose consortium BIC was also part of.

MELODI: Multidisciplinary European Low Dose Initiative

MELODI is a European Platform dedicated to low dose radiation risk research.

The purpose of MELODI is:

  • EUROPE 2020 Strategy: MELODI will propose R&T priorities for Europe in its field of competence
  • Comunication with stakeholders: MELODI will seek the views of stakeholders on the priorities for research, keep them informed on progress made, and contribute to the dissemination of knowledge.
  • Cooperation with WHO and IAEA: MELODI will interface with international partners like WHO and IAEA.

In February 2014 MELODI established three working groups:

  • SRA_Strategic Research Agenda
  • INFRA_Infrastructures
  • E&T_Education and Training

SECPHO

Cluster that gathers more than 180 organizations promoting technological innovation through deep tech in all sectors of our economy.

  • Experts in generating synergies between researchers, investors and companies to create deep tech innovations that respond to the challenges of both industry and society. Deep tech are advanced technologies with a high environmental and social impact. For this reason, they will play a key role in the achievement of different Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 agenda.
  • Help researchers to connect their capacities with the challenges of our society by promoting applied research. Through open innovation models, we connect scientific talent with companies in all sectors.
  • Help large organisations to accelerate their technological innovation process, connecting them with an ecosystem of startups and SMEs that are experts in advanced technologies and propose disruptive solutions.
  • Collaborate with public administrations to help them identify industry and societal challenges to channel public investment through technological innovation. We also cooperate with national and international clusters to foster cross-sector collaboration and connect value chains.

Water Europe (WE)

Water Europe (WE) is a multi-stakeholder platform that acts as the main promoter for water research and innovation in Europe, fostering the formation of projects and consortia through networking. Its main objectives are:

  • Contribute to solving global challenges through research and innovation.
  • To improve coordination and collaboration in the water sector and water consuming sectors in the EU and beyond.
  • To improve the performance and competitiveness of the European water sector and water consuming sectors.

Main benefits for active members:

  • Participation in the working groups.
  • Participation in WE's annual events, including Water Knowledge Europe (WKE).

Water Europe members who want to take advantage of WE's network can count on WE's participation in project consortia in communication and dissemination tasks as well as exploitation of results.
