Communities Oriented to Strategic Challenges

Communities Oriented to Strategic Challenges (CORES UAB) are interdisciplinary research and innovation networks that connect UAB and UAB Sphere research groups and centres with companies, public administrations, institutions and other stakeholders in the region.

These networks bring together capabilities and knowledge around strategic challenges to promote knowledge transfer to society and the region. To achieve this, they connect research groups, centres and other stakeholders, facilitate knowledge exchange and create opportunities for collaboration across disciplines and sectors.

Their aim is to consolidate stable research and innovation networks that:

• Promote knowledge transfer and connections with society and the region.
• Increase the visibility of their members and capabilities, both locally and internationally.
• Identify synergies and complementarities between groups, centres and other stakeholders working on shared challenges.
• Foster new collaborations and interdisciplinary research and innovation initiatives.
• Coordinate activities and facilitate the exchange of resources, information and knowledge.

The CORE communities were created at the initiative of researchers, with the support of the Vice-Rectorate for Research and the Research Vice-Management, and are attached to the Strategic Development Unit. They arose from the need to address complex challenges from a multidisciplinary perspective and to effectively bring together the scientific and knowledge capabilities of the institutions that make up the UAB Sphere.
