UAB moves on for World AIDS Day

On 1 December, on the occasion of the World AIDS Day, a team of seven people of the Health Programme of the UAB Solidarity Foundation (FAS) promoted the participation in the activities at the Plaça Cívica. About 60 students participated in the Xiringu, the information and awareness point and about a healthy sexuality and free of prejudices. Several people also played the different fun games about sexual education.
 
At the same time at 12:30 pm, more than 30 people participated in the representation of a giant red ribbon with the objective of showing the commitment of the fight against HIV-AIDS and the prejudices about the virus. Besides, throughout the morning and thanks to the collaboration of Actua Vallès, many people were tested for HIV. The interest produced was big enough to make the Health Programme consider repeating it after the Christmas Holidays.
 
Being tested for HIV or getting a diagnosis test every three months is the first step to fight against the transmission of the infection. In Catalonia, there are close to 800 people who get infected every year, but the 25% of them don’t even know they are.
 
This year, additionally, with the objective of raising awareness about reality and fighting against the HIV stigma, a week ago the Health Programme launched the #CondomBucketChallenge campaign in the social networks, in which about 10 people have participated.
