The UAB welcomes in the Chinese New Year

The UAB will celebrate the start of the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Snake, with a series of activities dedicated to Asian culture, continuing over the whole day. Among other things there will be oriental food, comics, exhibitions, traditional ceremonies and even a karaoke. All on 20 February, from 11h. on the Plaça Cívica.

Different UAB organisations are jointly organising the celebration of the Chinese New Year, to be held on Wednesday 20 February at the Plaça Cívica. The New Year, the Year of the Snake, will be welcomed in at the Autònoma with a series of activities to give people a taste of Asian culture.

The activities will start at 11h. at the Plaça Cívica. There will be various stands with, among other things, all kinds of oriental food, typical board games from Asia, a market for second-hand manga comics and displays of calligraphy and origami, two crafts that are highly developed in Asia. There will also be two exhibitions, one on Chinese New Year traditions and another on comic artists.

Besides all that, there will be two tea ceremonies: a Japanese one at 11h. in the presentation room in the ETC building, and a Chinese one at 12h. in the Plaça Cívica. Finally, at 16h. there will be a karaoke on the Plaça Cívica - open to everyone.

The Chinese New Year celebrations have been organised jointly by the ETC Participation Group, the Eastern Asia Group, OTAKU Manga Club at the UAB and the Student Council of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. These celebrations of Asian culture are offered in the framework of the International Welcome Days.
