The UAB ranks top university in Spain according to the CyD Ranking

In this ninth edition of the ranking of universities in Spain, conducted by the Fundación CyD, the UAB occupies the top position, with the highest number off overall scores in the indicators included in the group of top performing universities.

The Fundación CyD presented the results of the ninth edition of its CyD ranking o universities in Spain. This ranking is created in association with the international U-Multirank ranking, with which it shares methodological principles and the majority of indicators, in addition to specific indicators directly related to the Spanish university system. This edition included a total of 79 universities, 28 areas of knowledge and 3,052 academic programmes.

The ranking evaluates each university's performance according to the result obtained in 37 indicators, both for the institutional classification and for the classification of 28 areas of knowledge. The criteria is structured in five dimensions: Teaching & Learning, Research, Knowledge Transfer, International Orientation and Regional Engagement.

A new area of knowledge was added in the 2022 edition, Architecture, which now forms part of the list of the other areas of knowledge: Business Management and Administration, Agriculture, Biology, Earth Sciences/Geology, Law, Political Science, Education, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering,Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacology, Physics, History, Nursing, Mathematics, Medicine, Dentistry, Psychology, Chemistry, Sociology, Social Work and Veterinary Science.

The CYD ranking classifies universities into above average, average or below average performing institutions, according to the scores obtained in each criteria. In this edition, the UAB is the university with the highest number of overall scores in the group of top performing universities, with a total of 28 indicators (the same number as in last year's ranking).

The UAB's degree of performance is different depending on the five dimensions of the ranking and the indicators included in each of these dimensions.

With regard to Teaching & Learning, the UAB is in the top performing group in 6 of the 9 indicators: bachelor's and master's graduation rate, bachelor's and master's graduating on time, bachelor's and master's performance rate, and bachelor's employment success rate. It forms part of the average performance group in average capacity for national attraction (master's degrees) and in the low performing group in national attraction (bachelor's degree).

With regard to research, the UAB is also in the top performing group in 6 of the 9 indicators: publications per faculty members (PDI, full-time teaching staff), external funding, normalised impact, highly-cited publications, number of post-docs/PDI. It ranks in the a verage performance group in living research sections and in the low performing group in interdisciplinary publications and open access publications.

With regard to knowledge transfer, the UAB is situated in the high performing group in 7 of the 8 indicators: publications in collaboration with private entities, patents issued per PDI, spin-offs, private funding sources, patent cited publications and income under license. In the business patents and continuous training income, hte UAB ranks in the average performance group.

In international orientation, the UAB figures among the top performing universities in 6 of the 7 indicators: master's degrees in foreign languages, foreign lecturers, international PhD theses, publications in collaboration with universities abroad, student mobility and work placements abroad. With regard to the indicator on bachelor's degrees offered in a foreign language, the UAB ranks among the average performance group, as happens with the indicator of work placements abroad.

Lastly, the UAB presents top performing scores in 3 of the 4 indicators related to regional engagement: publications with regional entities, work placements in surrounding businesses, and publications with businesses in the region; and an average performance in regional funding for research.
