The PhD thesis #11,000 is entitled "Metaphors and Terms in a Corpus on Political Discourse in Persian: a Cognitive Approach" and was presented by Mina Ebrahimi Erdi under the PhD programme in Translation and Intercultural Studies at the UAB, directed by lecturers Anna Aguilar-Amat and Patricia Rodríguez-Inés.

The thesis is a study based on a corpus of 14 million words collected between January 2016 and December 2017 on the political discourse in Persian in the Iranian Parliament and in two different politically affiliated news agencies. The author applies cognitive linguistics to explore and categorise the difficulties and ambiguities related to the metaphors and terms that an English translator may encounter when translating from Persian into English. The study highlights the importance of extralinguistic knowledge, particularly of religious texts, when translating political texts in Persian.

The UAB was also the first last year to reach 10,000 PhD theses published in the TDX repository.
