Usually, changes imply new opportunities. That is what has happened with the Tandem programme this year. It has modified its format to adapt to this new situation that we experienced. It has met the expectations of the students who took part.

In this second semester, everybody had to adapt to a new situation and the Tandem programme is not an exception. We tried to take something positive from the bad situation we have experienced and we created the on line Tandem.

During two months we created linguistic pairs who have been in touch during the lockdown. In some cases, the pair kept chatting even though the ease lockdown measures and the lifting of restrictions.

Despite the current situation, the online Tandem has gathered up to 57 pairs, most of them point out that it has been a very positive experience. Altogether, 145 UAB students have registered to the programme, 67 of them were local students and the others were internationals. The latter came from  32 different countries and it stands out a high presence of Germans and Italians. Nevertheless, this activity has featured the participation of diverse nationalities, such as people from Russia, Colombia, Taiwan, or Nigeria, among others.

This programme ended on the 31stof May. However, this year, the traditional farewell lunch, which in previous editions closed the activity, was not held. We hope to be able to hold it when we will be back at the UAB Campus as soon as possible.

The students who took part in the programme liked this new format. Who knows if it is here to stay. You should be tuned to the UAB Participation website to find out whether the next year the online Tandem is back to complement the activities that are typically held in this programme.
