Online symposium to discuss hybrid higher education models

On 1 and 2 July, the eight public universities of Catalonia organise the International Symposium CIDUI 2020 entitled "Higher education in the knowledge society: challenges of hybrid models", which will take place online and be open to all those interested. Registration is free and can be done through the sympopsium's website: www.cidui.org.

Two sessions will be held. The first session, which will take place on 1 July at 4 p.m., will be offered by Professor Peter Mathieson, Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh. He will offer a conference entitled "Alternative Models to Address a Hybrid University System". In the second session, to be held on 2 July at 4 p.m., Hugo Pardo, Founder and General Manager of Outliers School, and Linda Castañeda, associated professor at the University of Murcia, will participate in a dialogue entitled "The evolution of the student-teacher binomial in the new context". The dialogue will be moderated by Josep Joan Moreso, professor of Legal Philosophy at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and president of AQU Catalunya. The symposium will also include the participation of María José Figueras, president of ACUP and rector of the URV, and Francesc Xavier Grau, secretary of Universities and Research of the Catalan Government.

Twenty Years of Symposiums

The International Congress on University Teaching and Innovation (CIDUI) has been organised by Catalonia's public universities and the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) since the year 2000. The eleventh edition of the symposium had been organised as an on-site event, with over 500 experts in higher education attending from around the world, but the global pandemic has prevented it from being possible.

The CIDUI, as a space of reflection and innovation surrounding university teaching, has become an important annual meeting point throughout its twenty years of existence and cannot turn its back on the particularly complex conjuncture currently existing at universities: the challenges arising from the processes of social, economic and technological transformation now exist alongside complex processes created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the symposium aims to generate a dialogue not only among academic teams, but also among students, govering teams and those administrating and managing the new realities found in all dimensions of the university system.
