A team of lecturers and researchers at the UAB has developed e·Chinese Tools, an open online database of useful resources for those interested in studying and teaching Chinese as a foreign language. In addition to the resources, teachers and students will be able to contribute to the web by rating the contents or providing feedback via e-mail.

e·Chinese Tools

The portal is available in four languages (Catalan, Spanish, English and Chinese) and includes a collection of metadata prepared to meet the needs of different types of users. Searches can be done according to type of resource, language level, skills, vehicular language, keywords, etc. Users can also subscribe to a bulletin and receive the latest resources made available on the website.

At present, the use of technologies is a common resource for those seeking to teach and/or learn a foreign language. Moreover, the need for online language lessons has grown exponentially since the COVID-19 pandemic. Both students and instructors must continuously update their digital skills, but when searching for online tools, they find themselves with an enormous amount of resources and with no time or means to evaluate each of them carefully. That also signifies that the potential of many of these resources often remains undiscovered. The e·Chinese Tools portal offers a solution to these problems.

The web was launched by the UAB Department of Translation and Interpreting & East Asian Studies, the Barcelona Confucius Institute Foundation, and the Research Group in Chinese-Catalan/Spanish Translation. The team which has made it possible to develop and launch thye project is made up of Sara Rovira-Esteva, Helena Casas-Tost, Andy Morodo, Antonio Paoliello and Mireia Vargas-Urpí. Zihui Wang collaborated in proofreading all texts in Chinese.
