Accounting and Finances: a versatile training
The Degree in Accounting and Finances offers versatile training in the area of Social Sciences, with a detailed specialisation in the sector of accounting and finances, and at the same time extended skills in the fields of business, economics and law. In addition to this degree, you will be able to enrol in a Minor in Accounting and Taxation or in Financial Consulting, and pursue a professional career in banking, insurances, financial consultancy, auditing or consulting firms.
Current changes in the global economy have worsened due to a lack of knowledge in financial risk management and a certain laxness in control regulations and accounting analyses of certain firms. This has made even more evident the social need of experts in the fields of financial management and information analysis at all levels. UAB has become aware of the challenge this represents for the future, which most probably will imply a restructuring of the financial system and of its control regulations, and has acted accordingly by implementing a new degree aimed at students interested in understanding today's world. In particular those interested in finances and business, in accounting analyses and reports, in budget control systems, and internal and external auditing.
The only Spanish universities to offer the Degree in Accounting and Finances are UAB and University Carlos III of Madrid. However, this degree is quiet common in Europe's English-speaking countries, the most well-known being the Accounting and Finance degree of the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Business and Technology: information managers
The Degree in Business and Technology combines solid training in business with technical skills which provide you with the competences needed to apply information and communication theories to the management of organisations. This is possible by complementing economics and business modules with others related to computing. You will be able to choose three different specialisations offered in three different Minors: Management of Business Administration Information Systems, Management of Financial Information Systems and Management of Computer Infrastructures. Professional options include information technology consultants, project managers or business analysts.
Business organisations have rapidly changed in the past few years. If the management of capital, work and material resources was essential before, today no one would doubt about the added importance of information and project management tasks. Business information systems and the technologies which make them possible are interrelated in several functional areas (production, human resources, accounting, finances and marketing) and provide organisations with the flexibility and ability to respond needed to be competitive. That is why it is essential to train professionals with solid business and economic skills who not only master the technological processes of business information systems, but are also capable of applying these skills to help organisations achieve their objectives and goals effectively.
No other university in Catalonia offers similar studies in Business and Technology. However, there are a number of European universities offering similar degrees in Business & Information Technologies, such as the University of Münster, Germany; the University of Aston, UK; the University of Tilburg, the Netherlands; and the University of Toulouse I, France.
The new Degree in Business and Technology, together with the EHEA degree in Accounting and Finances, was designed to offer greater specialisation to the current three-year degree in Business Studies. Both degrees will be offered at the Sabadell campus, at the new Faculty of Business and Economics, created on 3 October 2008 as the result of the union of the University School of Business Studies and the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies.
A decisive step for the Sabadell campus
The restructuring of the Sabadell campus also includes changes in the University School of Computer Science, which now forms part of the new building of the UAB School of Engineering located in Sabadell (the School's main building is located in Bellaterra).
Thus UAB has made a decisive step toward offering new and unique degrees which fit the social and professional demands of the region.
UAB continues as leader of the university activities in the city of Sabadell. Therefore, the fact that the School of Engineering and the Faculty of Business and Economics now have centres in Sabadell is an opportunity to make the campus grow and to incorporate a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate studies by making use of the knowledge society and future students will have in these sectors and strengthening the presence of UAB in Sabadell by consolidating teaching, research and knowledge transfer projects with the city's institutions and its network of industries and services.
